Calzones – Ideas for Customizing

In the last post, I gave you the recipe for the Calzone dough and my method to make them. But the fun part of Calzones (at least for me) is what each person puts inside them! I love to put a ton of items out, and let everyone pick their favorites to add to theirs. Teenagers really like these!

Here are some ideas:

Marinara sauce

Pesto sauce

Alfredo sauce

Pepperoni, beef or turkey

Sausage, pork or chicken, any flavor

Prosciutto, thinly sliced

Zucchini, sliced thin

Red Onion, thinly sliced

Bell peppers, thinly sliced

Spinach, washed and torn

Arugula, washed

Plum tomatoes, sliced

Basil leaves, washed and torn

Fresh Mozzarrella, grated or sliced

Mild Goat cheese, sliced or crumbled

Italian Fontina, grated

You can even do something like Mexican or Greek Calzones and set out ingredients or those meals – taco meat, grilled chicken, Mexican crema, feta, etc. The possibilities are endless!
